Late last month I visited Duane Ditchen’s Golden Valley Farms near Silverton. Ditchen’s reception office, in an old barn on his family farm, is decorated with farm implement models and Oregon State Beaver paraphernalia. A few hundred yards away in a grass seed storage shed was bags of seed bagged for sale under the Turf Merchants Evening Shade label. This grass, raised by a Beaver alum and season ticket holder, will be the grass that the Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers will play on at the National Championship game. Here is a link to the story.
While talking to a friend of mine this last weekend I learned that Auburn’s grass for their home field has also been raised by area grass seed growers.
